We are now into week four of the build season, and have been making steady progress on our robot. The drivetrain is almost completely designed, allowing us to start building the drive train for our first of two robots. The majority of the robot has been designed in SolidWorks, but we still need to design the climber and the indexer. Hopefully, we will soon have the design of the robot complete, so that we can finish building the robot, and begin practicing for the competition. The climber design is currently a work in progress, and based off of a mock prototype. We feel this climber will be the aspect of our robot that makes us stand out at competition. Just imagine a 16 inch tall robot climbing a six and half foot high bar in less than half a second. Wow! As for the indexer, we have a simple idea currently being prototyped and implemented into our working shooter. If the geometry works out, our robot will be able to get the ball from our intake mechanism to our shooter both simply and seamlessly. We feel honored to have won the SPBLI Regionals Competition, and are looking forward to competing in the nationals in St. Louis! It was a very close call, with our alliance trumping Israel in the last round, (161-145). We have all worked extremely hard during these six weeks, and are all ecstatic to have won in this competition. However, we are trying our best to save our real excitement for the nationals! We would like to say congratulations to all teams that competed in this competition on behalf of all of the members of Robogym Team 3950. We would also like to thank our excellent partners, Team 3137 and Team 3171. Forming this alliance greatly helped all of us to succeed.
Currently, we are making a great effort to finish constructing, and testing features of our robot (name is Patches). The distance between our team, and competition is growing smaller by the minute, making our productivity valuable to the team. Our team has showed true dedication throughout these past few days, displaying how RoboGym is truly a force to be reckoned with!
It’s 2015 and everything is changing for this year’s FRC(First Robotics Competition) game. “Recycle Rush” is the most innovative game in the sequence of past FRC games. In past years, a red alliance and a blue alliance would compete against each other to score the most points; however, this year there is no winning or losing. Instead, it is a contest to see who can score the most amount of points per game, and their average cumulative scores will determine their standing overall. To score, the robot must move totes onto scoring platforms, place recycling bins on top of totes, or place pool noodles inside of recycling bins. Our challenge is to construct a robot that synergizes well with robots with any of these capabilities.
